Tell Cashbook what every account was worth on the day you started, so your reports and bank balances are right from the start.
Without them your reports start from zero, and your bank balance in Cashbook will not match the bank.
Both do exactly the same thing. Guided setup asks one question at a time; the single page shows everything at once.
Upload the .xlsx trial balance from your old system. The figures fill the grid below and nothing is posted until you save.
Copy each figure from your trial balance, including any minus sign.
This cashbook has no balance sheet accounts yet. Add them to your chart of accounts first.
Whatever is left over goes here, so the entry always balances.
The books are locked on that date
Move the lock dateSaving again replaces this entry — the old one is reversed and both stay in your history.
An account connected after your start date needs its own opening balance, dated the day its transactions start.
Link this bank account to an account in your chart before you give it an opening balance.
PRD-98 — Conversion balances. The settings screen where a business tells Cashbook what every balance sheet account was worth on the day it started, posted as one balancing, GST-free entry.
This prototype was reverse-built from the shipped implementation (PRD-98 integration
branch, commit 088c1f87), so its copy, layout and behaviour mirror the real screens rather than
proposing new ones. It exists for stakeholder review, not to specify a new design.
Real in the prototype: the 840 Historical Adjustments plug (recomputed live from the figures you type), the balanced total, the line counts, the day-before journal date, the date-move confirmation and its re-arm on a date change, and every disabled-save reason.
Faked: the chart of accounts, the seeded trial balance, the bank figures (Akahu on build), the .xlsx parse, and the save round-trip (a timer, then a toast).
Turn on Annotations in the bottom-left toolbar for element-level notes.
This file is the lock conflict — the books are locked up to 30 Jun 2026, which is after the 31 Mar 2026 journal date. The date card says so up front; pressing Save opening balances returns the server's refusal with a link to move the lock date. There is no bypass.
